Legislative Watchdog

  • Full-time monitoring of daily California legislative and regulatory matters in Sacramento.
  • Full-time monitoring of federal regulatory and legislative actions affecting the bottled water industry.

  • A working relationship with the International Bottled Water Association regarding pending federal legislative issues.

Accomplishments

    Over the years, CBWA has been instrumental in successfully working with the California government. Some of these accomplishments include:
  • Maintaining poly carbonate plastic as the material of choice for 3-,5-, and 6-gallon bottles during the late '80s.
  • Eliminating the tax on bottled water in 1992 through the sponsorship of Proposition 163.
  • Successfully defeating four bills designed to expand costly processing fees for bottled water containers under the Beverage Container Recycling and Litter Reduction Act.
  • Participating in the container recycling definition development, eliminating potential double bottle inventories and operational issues.
  • Quick communication/information sharing on the 1995 CA/OSHA targeted/inspections for the industry.
  • Close communications and liaison with California Health Services concerning California's adoption of the Federal Standards of Identity.
